Information for Members

Membership Agreement

I will:

  • Sign a liability waiver.
  • Contribute 15 hours/season of volunteer work to the society. These hours will be recorded and tracked. Work may include making compost, construction, filling water barrels, helping elders or children with their plots, fundraising, hosting greenhouse events, time spent working on a committee, or time spent at society meetings. Other volunteer ideas will be posted in the Members Corner in the Greenhouse lobby from time to time. If you wish to waive the volunteer hours you will be required to pay $225 total (or $15/unfulfilled hour) over and above the annual membership dues and plot fees.
  • Not leave my plot unattended. Plots left unattended for 2 weeks will be given over to someone on the waiting list.
  • Follow garden etiquette as determined in this agreement.
  • Take any complaints, comments or suggestions to a representative on the board of directos or the greenhouse coordinator.
  • Clean up my plot at the end of the season.

Etiquette - I will:

  • Respect other people's plots.
  • Ensure that children are supervised at all times.
  • Keep dogs outside of the greenhouse on a leash at all times and be responsible for cleaning up after them. Dogs are not allowed inside the greenhouse.
  • Remove all of my own garbage from the greenhouse (not including compostable materials).
  • Notify the coordinator if I am going to be away or sick and have someone else tending my plot or if I need help tending my plot.

Gardening Practices - I will:

  • Manually water my plot using the water in the storage barrels, and keep water barrels filled as much as possible.(Filling barrels will count towards your required 15 volunteer hours)
  • Keep the paths between the plots and walkways clear of equipment, toys and materials such as weeds and large rocks.
  • Dispose of weeds and diseased or infested plants offsite (do not compost).
  • Notify the coordinator of any serious disease or insect problem and seek organic methods to treat it.
  • Ensure that the water taps are turned off before leaving the greenhouse.
